CMS GRAMMAR SCHOOL’S OLD GRAMMARIANS’ SOCIETY – MERIT AWARD 2016
The Old Grammarians’ Society (‘OGS’), umbrella body of Old Boys of CMS Grammar School, Bariga, Lagos (Nigeria’s oldest secondary school) holds its annual Merit Award & Fund-Raising Ceremony on Saturday, 19th November 2016 in the Ven. B. A. Adelaja Hall (School Hall) at 1 pm. The event takes place under the Distinguished Chairmanship of Prince Adedapo Adelegan (an Old Boy), Chairman and President in Council, Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce while Chief S. Ade Ojuri JP (an Old Boy) is the Father of the Day.
According to a statement released in Lagos by the President of the OGS, Mr. Adedapo Fashanu, the event was instituted to honour distinguished Old Boys who have contributed significantly to the socio-economic/political life of the nation and brought honour to the School. The occasion also serves to raise funds for the continuing rehabilitation of the School facilities.
The event begins with a tour of the School by the awardees, Old Boys and invited guests to appreciate the improvement in the facilities since the handover of the School by the Lagos State Government to the Anglican Mission.
A new inclusion in the award category this year is the Family Award. The award will be presented to the Awojobi Family who have had up to their 5th generation attend the School. Not only have they attended the School, they have excelled in the fields of Medicine, Engineering, Administration and the Humanities.
The awardees are drawn from nominations from eminent Old Boys, Class Sets, Branches and Chapters of the OGS. The list of individual awardees comprises Old Boys who have excelled in different professions and contributed to national development.
As part of our interest in rewarding corporate social responsibility, the Corporate Award was introduced to encourage corporate entities do more for the School. This year’s Corporate Award will be presented to Nigerian Breweries Plc.
There is also the Class Set and the Branch/Chapter Award. This category of award is important because of the need to reward excellence and contribution to the development of the School among the groups that make up the OGS. The Class Set Award will be presented to the 1974/76 Class Set (Winner), 1991 Class Set (1st Runner-Up) and 1960 Class Set (2nd Runner-Up). The Branch/Chapter Award will be presented to the Americas Chapter.
